About DC Guitars

My name is Dave Coke, and I build electric guitars here in Michigan.

I'm an engineer and project manager by trade and I've developed some innovations which make DC Guitars a little different. First and foremost is my patent-applied-for Backbone semi-hollow body design. Follow the link for more details.

I'm also still trying out a couple different things with the electronics. I'm narrowing down to some variations which incorporate both the traditional neck and bridge pickup selections matched up with some of my favorite custom combinations. My intention is to settle into a few specific wood/pickup/switching combinations geared toward different player styles.

But my favorite part of building guitars is working with the wood. My parents have a tree farm in West Michigan, and many of the pieces I use come directly from the woods where I grew up. Here's a picture of me with my kids next to a nice cherry tree. Future guitars? Future builders? Could be...

I love making guitars. Yeah, I love playing them too, but I really love making them. Starting with some ideas and some wood and creating something that eventually comes alive with music is a real thrill. And developing new designs and putting together guitars which produce rich, long-sustaining, powerful sounds is deeply rewarding for me. I'm addicted to it.

I want to create instruments that inspire players. New designs, new combinations, new tones... I want to build guitars that are just a little different than everything else out there. So check 'em out. Maybe I can build one that's right for you.
